In August 2022, Shawn Ridley secured an agreement by Plaintiff to voluntarily dismiss his personal injury action against the City of Seaside and the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District with prejudice in response to Mr. Ridley’s Opposition to Plaintiff’s Motion for Relief from Claim Filing Requirements.

In the Spring of 2022, Todd Master and Jenny Li obtained summary judgment in favor of The Regents of the University of California and several of its police officers in a case filed in Alameda County Superior Court. The Court correctly found that the University police officers lawfully detained the plaintiff to investigate his possession of a concealed firearm on the UC Berkeley campus during a volatile protest. During the pendency of the summary judgment motion, the plaintiff dismissed his excessive force claim.

In the Spring of 2022, Todd Master and Jenny Li obtained summary judgment in favor of the West County Wastewater District in a complex, high-exposure landslide litigation matter filed in Contra Costa County. The Court held that the plaintiffs failed to satisfy their burden of proof on their claim that District-owned and maintained property was the legal cause of the landslide.

In May of 2021, Shawn Ridley obtained summary judgment in favor of the City of Seaside and one of its police officers in wrongful death case filed in Federal District Court for the Northern District of California. Plaintiffs alleged various constitutional violations against the City and the officer who shot Plaintiff’s decedent. The Court ruled that under the specific facts of the case, both the City and officer were entitled to qualified immunity.

In March 2021, Rhonda Woo obtained summary judgment in favor of the City of South San Francisco in a multi-million dollar traumatic brain injury case where a defendant filed a cross-complaint against the City, contending that the City caused a dangerous condition of public property. The trial court held that there was no defect in the public property itself and no actual or constructive knowledge of a dangerous condition. Ms. Woo successfully defended the City in every aspect of the subsequent appeal, including oral argument before the California Court of Appeal in May 2022, and obtained an order affirming the trial court’s judgment in June 2022.

In November 2020, Shawn Ridley obtained summary judgment in favor of the City of South San Francisco in a case where the plaintiff suffered serious injuries after tripping over the raised edge of a metal utility vault cover located on the City’s sidewalk. The Court granted the City’s motion, finding that the City did not own, control, maintain or repair the utility vault or its covers.

In July 2017, Shawn Ridley obtained a defense verdict in favor of Eaton Corporation after a four week jury trial in a living mesothelioma case venued in Sonoma County.

In March 2017, Shawn Ridley obtained summary judgment in favor of the City of Seaside in a multi-million dollar catastrophic spine injury case where the injured motorcyclist claimed that the City’s street constituted a dangerous condition of public property. The Court held that the City was entitled to design immunity.
